What is an e-passport?
An e-passport, also known as an electronic passport, includes an embedded microprocessor chip and antenna. This chip integrates the holder’s biometric information, such as a photograph, fingerprints, and iris scan. E-passport holders benefit from expedited immigration processes, bypassing visa checks by using electronic gates instead of waiting in lines. Applying for an e-passport has become convenient, as it can now be done online from anywhere within the country, eliminating previous hassles.
To apply for an e-passport, please follow the guidelines below:
- Book an appointment to visit the Passport Application Centre. You can do this by visiting expatserviceskl or contacting our help desk.
- On the scheduled day of your appointment, visit the application centre and ensure you have all required documents with you.
- Complete the application form at the application centre. A designated officer will assist you, and your presence is required during this process.
- Make the necessary payment exclusively at the application centre. It is essential to obtain a receipt, as it will be required for passport collection.
- Proceed with the enrollment of your biometric data as part of the application process.
- The processing time for an e-passport is 21 working days.

The required documents for applying for an e-passport typically include:
- Proof of Identity:
- Bangladeshi National ID card OR
- Online Birth Certificate with a 17-digit code
- Photocopy of Two Pages:
- Include copies of two pages from your existing Bangladeshi passport that contain your biodata (personal information) and your parents’ details.
- Current Visa:
- Photocopy of your Malaysian visa
- Additional Requirement:
- Original documents (such as your Bangladeshi National ID card, Online Birth Certificate, existing Bangladeshi passport) for verification purposes during the application process.
